Guns of Eschaton supports three modes and treats them as one progression system: single-player, two-player co-op, and PvP. The entire story is playable alone or with a partner, and a partner keeps their own campaign progress rather than borrowing the host's. That last detail is unusual for the genre and is the reason co-op is worth planning around rather than treating as a bonus.
Before you plan a session
- Co-op — player count, shared progression, how PvP invasions interact with a solo run.
- Crossplay — what Xbox advertises, what PlayStation says, and where the PC pool sits.
- How to Join Friends — the campfire travel menu, the camp location, and the practical order of operations.
What is confirmed and what is not
Confirmed: two players, shared progression, PvP as a separate opt-in threat, PlayStation Plus required for online play on PS5, and Xbox cross-platform play inside the Xbox ecosystem.
Not confirmed: any crossplay bridge between PC and consoles. No store listing claims one, and no announcement promises one.
Plan for two, not four
Several third-party sites describe two-to-three player cooperation or four-player squads. The publish-date announcement and the console listings both say two. Build a duo around the Codex and the ammunition economy, not around a full party.
